Our 40+ voice Chancel Choir has had quite a reputation that has been a major part of Vista UMC since the first notes were sung by the first “Sunday” choir. Since then the choir has been a part of almost every worship service and has done a wide variety of special programs too.
Marshall Sanders has been the director of this fine group for almost five years and has commented more than once that this is one of the best choral groups in the Tucson area, especially considering it is all volunteer and only rehearses an hour and a half each week.
This fall has seen nice growth for the choir, with many new faces and voices joining the ranks. But if you’re counting, there are still empty chairs that beckon YOU. Why not come and see if Vista’s Chancel Choir is the right thing for you! Even if the church is new to you, the choir is a great way to plug in and get acquainted quickly.
Rehearsals are at 7:00 PM on Wednesday evening, lasting between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the time of the year and the tasks at hand. The choir meets for regular rehearsals from September through May. During the summer, the “Summer Choir” steps in – not a different group really, but always adding a few folks who can’t make the 9-month commitment. There are no weekday rehearsals during the summer, as the choir meets at 9:00 on Sunday mornings and prepares an appropriate anthem to present during the 10 am service.
Choir at Vista is mobile, flexible and easy-going. Many of our folks travel and visit relatives around the country throughout the year. Others are with us only for a portion of the winter, while even others will only sing for a few months somewhere along the way. Never a problem – attendance is never taken. With our church and our people, being flexible allows to have a far larger choir and allows many more to participate. So come and join us – or come and TRY us. We’d love to have you!_________________________________________________________________

The Vista Joy Ringers are a small group of people who enjoy ringing handbells. All who would like to join are welcome. We would like more ringers! Skill levels range from novice to experienced. The bell choir is led by Shannon Casey, who is the director of the outstanding Tucson handbell choir, Sonoran Bells. She is an experienced musician and a very patient director!
